The best vacation is a Maine Vacation, because you can do almost anything! You can spend a few days in the mountains and a few days at the ocean. You can go camping, stay in a beautiful bed and breakfast, or sleep in a high rise hotel beside the ocean. You can roast hot dogs and make s’mores for dinner one night, and the next evening you can be dining on steak and lobster in a charming restaurant on the water’s edge.
The Beautiful Maine Coastline – Maine’s 3500 mile long rocky coastline is dotted with soft sandy beaches. Old Orchard Beach also has beautiful ocean view hotels and an amusement park that was there back when I was a kid. It was popular then and just as popular today. It’s a favorite vacation spot for Canadians, who visit by the thousands every summer, so don’t be surprised to find all kinds of signs in both English and French. Old Orchard Beach has always been a multicultural vacation destination. If you visit, be sure to try the french fries with white vinegar. They are exceptionally good!! I personally think they spawned the potato chips with vinegar craze.
The carnival rides are not just for kids! You will see plenty of adults enjoying the Tilt-a-Whirl, Ferris Wheel, Bumper Cars, and even the Merry-go-Round. And there are a few scary rides too! It’s a great place for a family vacation. Hotels, motels, cabins, and campgrounds abound to meet the preferences of everyone. But, don’t go without making reservations first or you could be disappointed.
All up and down Maine’s coast are beautiful islands and many are accessible by ferry. At Portland’s Old Port area you can go on a great whale watch. Further north you can go on trips to enjoy seals, puffins and a variety of sea birds plus the gorgeous scenery of Maine’s unique and beautiful coastline. Some of the beautiful towns to visit include York, Wells, Kennebunk, Kennebunkport, Ogunquit, Rockland, Camden, Prout’s Neck (part of Scarborough), and Machias. Get a map and visit them all. Be sure to enjoy some fresh Maine seafood, and our famous Maine lobster at one of the many fantastic restaurants you’ll find on the coast as well as inland.
Maine’s Beautiful Mountains – If you and your family love hiking, camping, lakes, fishing and boating, head to the Western Maine Foothills. Maine’s many beautiful lakes and rivers host fishing enthusiasts and boaters. Our lakes have beautiful beaches for swimming and relaxing.
Wildlife is abundant in Maine, so have your camera ready. You could see fox, coyotes, moose, bear, hawks, bald eagles, and more. There are lots of hiking trails scattered from one end of the state to the other. They range in difficulty, from easy family trails to advanced trails. Maine is host to the northern end of the Appalachian Trail.
It’s a good time to plan a Maine vacation. There is so much to do that is FREE, and that’s important in this day and age. We look forward to seeing you anytime of year. Remember MAINE is a 4 SEASON VACATION DESTINATION!
