Author,
mother and grandmother, Lois Witham, brings old-fashioned fun to her
stories. Whether the child is reading or being read to, numerous
opportunities are provided for them to take part in her stories.
Lois’ roots in
Maine
date back over several generations.
She grew up in
Reading,
Massachusetts.
Her mother, the daughter of Dr. Harry R. Farris and Mamie Prince Blake
Farris was raised in
Oxford,
Maine.
Lois’ summer vacations have been spent on Farris camp on Thompson Lake
in Oxford. The camp has been the place for summer vacations every year.
The land was purchased by her grandfather in 1891, when he was nineteen
years old. Hearing family stories from her grandmothers and
other family members, has always been a source of pleasure for Lois. Her
deep affection for children has made writing this book, to preserve
memories for others, a most pleasant task.
In "The Pork Thieves,"
Lois relates a story passed down through many
generations of her family.
Western Maine towns and historic figures come to life for
the reader as the children in the story relate tales of
Snow
Falls and Mollyockett during an
exciting, and a little scary, evening spent alone. Their adventure with
the Pork Thieves will keep the attention of all. Young readers will
learn how
Western Maine children, in the past, lived and played.
This is a chapter book and a perfect addition to the family library for
the young reader. Additionally, this book is fun for all ages. Even
adults reading it to their children and grandchildren have remarked what
delightful reading it is.
"My Name Is . . ." is a bright, colorful book for
younger children. Each colorful page contains fun pictures that follow
along a young girl's adventure of "growing" her name, by adding to it
the names of things she likes. At the end of the book, children have a
place to make their own special name. This book will put a smile on your
face as you share it with a special child of your own.
Lois wrote and illustrated both books. Two more
books are presently in the works and will be available on this web site
after publication.
